Joris van Eijnatten (PhD 1993) is a cultural historian and general director of the Netherlands eScience Center. Between 2007 and 2019 he worked as full professor of cultural history at VU University Amsterdam and subsequently Utrecht University. He has published numerouw books and articles on the history of ideas, religion and media, on subjects including toleration, sermons, communication and the poet Willem Bilderdijk. He now specialises in digital (computer-assisted) history, with a particular interest in tracing changing concepts over time. He is a founding editor of the open-access journalInternational Journal for History, Culture and Modernity.
