Standards

In addition to tools and datasets, CLARIAH also creates standards for the development and use of digital resources. This includes technical and programming standards, and research standards such as vocabularies, taxonomies and ontologies.

As a researcher you can:

  • Gain insight into how tools and data have been developed
  • Better substantiate research results generated through CLARIAH resources
  • Use standards to develop new resources or modify existing ones

Ineo: all our digital resources in one place

Ineo lets you search, browse, find and select digital resources for your research in humanities and social sciences. Gradually, it will offer access to thousands of tools, datasets, workflows, standards and educational material.

Why use standards?

Compatability

Data standards ensure that different systems and applications can exchange and understand data seamlessly

Consistency

With a uniform structure for data, errors due to different formats or definitions are reduced

Efficiency

Using standardized formats and protocols streamlines data processing, analysis, and reporting, leading to time and cost savings

Findability

Easily findable digital resources promote collaboration among researchers and encourage the reuse of valuable data

Who are standards meant for?

To ensure that everyone can make joint use of all the digital tools being developed, it is important to work in a standardised way. CLARIAH therefore uses a number of (existing) standards and principles to ensure accessibility, making it easier to collect, modify and analyse data and use tools.

Besides general standards and vocabulary, standards have also been developed for specific disciplines or types of research, such as linguistics, socio-economic history, media studies and research in textual sources.
