KB Summerschool Digital Collections 2025 (Dutch)

About the Summerschool

The national library makes a wealth of digital publications, from millions of pages of digitised historical newspapers to thousands of archived websites available. During the Summerschool, they will introduce you to our digital collections and teach you to critically examine these unique resources.

How is a digital object constructed? How is a digital collection put together? Which metadata are added to it? How do you make a selection for your research and what can and may you do with it? They also show you how to query metadata, extract text and what is and is not possible under copyright law.

KB experts will share their knowledge, but you will also get to work with the digital collections yourself. Moreover, you will work on your own research idea, with plenty of room to consult the KB experts. There is also a social programme, including a dinner, a tour of the KB warehouse, and daily lunch together.

The Summerschool is organised in cooperation with the Huizinga Institute.

Good to Know

• The Summerschool is intended for PhD students, (research) master students and other beginning researchers.
• The working language is Dutch.
• The location of the Summerschool is the KB in The Hague, close to Central Station. Indicative start time: 9.00 am.
• There is room for a maximum of 20 participants. Due to limited availability, we would like to ask you to only apply if you are really interested and sure that you are available on 30 June - 4 July 2025.
• In principle, the Summerschool is free of charge. However, we do count on your coming if you are registered. If you do not show up after your registration without good reason, we will charge €50.
• By participating in the Summerschool, 3 ECTS can be earned.
