Every university has various departments, institutes and centers that have to deal with the challenge: to facilitate DH education and research. But where to start in a faculty that is so diverse? What works and what doesn't?
Last month, Liselore Tissen visited Leiden University where she invited institutes, departments and centers from all over the faculty to discuss these topics (LUCDH, Digihub, ICT-Humanities, UB, Center for Digital Scholarship, LUCAS). A big question that came up is the role centers for Digital Humanities play. Should they integrate into the faculty or should they be an individual entity? Based on the discussions, it became clear that it is important to get a clear picture of the phases in which digital skills must be learned and implemented. Furthermore, determining the level of the students, teachers and researchers will be helpful in determining the focus of each deparment. It was mentioned that it can be useful to sketch personas to get a better picture of the level, the needs, the form that works best and what is needed to achieve this. Based on these findings, Liselore has developed a strategy and has formulated some practical steps that can help with the structural implimentation of DH in education and research.
