Rick Mourits

Rick Mourits is a historical demographer and data engineer. He is the WP4 lead for CLARIAH and the database manager of the HSN databases, such as the Historical Sample of the Netherlands and LINKS, a countrywide reconstruction of persons and families living in the Netherlands between 1812 and 1967. His areas of expertise are historical databases, quantitative research methodology, and historical inequalities in mortality.
Rick studied sociology and religious studies at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. From 2014 to 2019, he wrote his PhD thesis on familial clustering of longevity in the 19th and early-20th centuries at the department of economic, social, and demographic history of the Radboud University. During this time, Rick was also a guest researcher at the Utah Population Database division. From 2019 to 2020, he was employed by the Universiteit Utrecht as a postdoctoral researcher at the department of economic and social history of the Utrecht University. From 2021 to 2022 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher and data engineer for the Historical Databases Suriname and Curacao at the Radboud University.
